It's time for another song! This one is focused on the Sidhe-folk, literally the people of the mounds. What they are is confusing at best to us humans, but they're a clearly important group of beings in Irish lore and thus worthy of honoring with song in this a season where they are traditionally given extra attention. Since I've been doing a bunch of gardening and yard work as of late, I decided to focus on the idea of making pacts with them to try to make the land healthier and happier.
Musically, this all started from the first vocal line, and expanded out from there. The 6/4 rhythm feels a bit different from either 6/8 (a faster grouping of 3's commonly heard in jigs) but also different from the 3/4 because the first group of 3 is always incomplete. In addition, by having groups of 3 measures rather than the usual 4, it gets a slight surprise at the ends of phrases, at least at first. The scale here is D Dorian, which differs from the standard minor by having the B natural rather than B flat, which brings along with it the G major and E minor chords that normally aren't present in a D minor-ish key.
